Problems arising from conflict of interest
- Mishandling conflict of interest may distort and cast doubt on the reliability of one’s professional judgement. Subsequently, it may attract criticism and suspicion.
- If fraudulent acts are involved (e.g. falsifying documents to cover up conflicts involved), it may lead to criminal offences such as deception, fraud, false accounting, etc.
- On the other hand, if advantage is offered or accepted during mishandling of conflict of interest, it may lead to breaching the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.
