Dos and Don'ts
DON'Ts
DON'T just look at the price
Price isn't the only important thing to look out for
when selecting a policy. Some policies may be cheaper but may offer
less protection in key areas. Cheaper is not always the better,
shop around and get more comparisons.
DON'T sign on blank or incomplete
forms
Don't sign on any blank or incomplete forms so as to
protect yourself against potential losses arising from
misrepresentation or forgery. You will be held responsible for the
content of the document once you sign on it.
DON'T make fraudulent claims
Don't provide false information to exaggerate the
value of possessions or extent of damage in your claims. Overplayed
claims might be denied. Making bogus claims and submitting false
documents will also be liable to criminal charges.
DON'T make cash payment directly to
handling intermediaries
Though it is up to the insurance company to decide
which methods of premium payment are acceptable, policy holders are
not recommended to make cash payment to handling intermediaries
direct so as to avoid misappropriation or mishandling of funds.
DON'T offer personal advantages to
intermediaries
Never offer advantages in any form to insurance intermediaries to
facilitate application of an insurance policy, making a claim or
referral of services, etc. Offering advantages to an agent without
his principals' approval may constitute an offence under the Prevention
of Bribery Ordinance (POBO). If you were asked to do so,
report the matter to the ICAC.
