A spate of corruption cases were registered in recent years involving senior management of listed companies. This has caused increasing concern from both the business sector and the public about the personal and corporate governance of company directors and senior executives. The recent "financial tsunami" that shocks the global market further underscores the need for Hong Kong, as an international financial centre, to take positive steps to ensure that our business environment operates openly, fairly and stably. The Conference on Corporate Governance in the Financial Sector organised on 8 - 10 December 2008 provided a timely platform for regulators and business leaders to exchange views on corruption prevention in the financial sector and assess the challenges ahead.
The ultimate goal of the whole Conference aimed at strengthening the promotion of ethical governance in different aspects of the financial sector with a view to reinforcing Hong Kong's leading position as an international financial hub.
