In compliance
with The Code of Professional Conduct of the Hong
Kong Institute of Architects ?
The objective of the Code of Professional
Conduct (the Code) is to promote the standard of
professional conduct and self discipline required
of members of HKIA in the interest of the public.
The Code rests on four Principles:
A
member shall faithfully carry out the duties
which he undertakes, and shall have a proper
regard for the interests both of those who
commission and of those who may be expected
to use or enjoy the product of his work.
A
member shall avoid any action or situation
inconsistent with his professional obligations
or likely to raise doubts about his integrity.
Shall
remove the source of conflict, or declare
the conflict of interest that may risk a breach
of this Principle.
Shall
not have any financial or personal interest
in any business which would breach this Principle,
unless such interest is fully declared and
accepted by parties concerned.
Shall
not take discounts, commissions, or gifts
as an inducement to show favour to others.
Shall
safeguard confidential information in relation
to his client and shall not disclose confidential
information to third parties without the written
consent of the client.
Shall
not accept excessive entertainment in relation
to his client's business because his decisions
might be seen as having been influenced by
such entertainment.
A
member shall rely on ability and achievement
as the basis for his advancement.
A
member shall endeavour to promote architectural
excellence through his work and by the encouragement
of others.
Although the
Code is not intended as exhaustive specifications
of what one should or should not do, it provides
clues on what kind of conduct is necessary and important
for professional architects. An architect can also
seek guidance from this Code on how to deal with
legal and ethical issues commonly encountered at
work. The above is only an extract of the full Code.
You may refer to HKIA's Professional Code of Conduct for details.
