Where to draw the line

The laws and professional codes of conduct set down rules and regulations to govern and guide how you act, but they may not always provide a solution to every ethical concern that arises in engineering practice. Engineering professionals are also required to exercise their personal judgment and discretion prudently when resolving ethical dilemmas at work.

The ETHICS PLUS decision-making model has been designed by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) as a tool to help you develop the skills you need for exercising sound judgment when you are faced with ethical issues. The basics of the model and how to apply it are explained in an interactive role-play activity in this chapter.
