The Hong Kong Institute of Architects
(HKIA) is a professional institution incorporated
under the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Incorporation
Ordinance in 1990 for the advancement of Architecture
and to promote and facilitate the acquisition of
knowledge of the various Arts and Sciences connected
therewith. The Institute is committed to raising
the standard of architecture in Hong Kong and the
standard of professional service offered by its
members. The HKIA provides the following services:
Education: Working closely with
two local Universities, namely the University
of Hong Kong and the Chinese University
of Hong Kong and offering courses and counseling
on professional practice and practical experience
in architecture. The Institute is also involved
in the assessment of academic programmes
in Hong Kong for accreditation purposes;
Continuing Education & Professional
Development (CEPD): Organising CEPD courses
for members on a regular basis to keep members
abreast of the latest developments in architecture;
Code of Professional Conduct:
Providing guidance to members to practise
according to the Code of Professional Conduct.
The Code aims to provide the standard of professional
conduct and self-discipline required of members
of the Institute in the interest of the general
public;
Disciplinary Action: Ensuring
the public receives from HKIA members only
the highest standard of professional service.
A Member whose conduct is found to be in contravention
of the Code or dishonouring the principle
of the Code is liable to reprimand, suspension
or expulsion;
Organisation of Events:
Organising conferences, seminars, workshops,
competitions, exhibitions and visits for exchange
of information and ideas and the promotion
of architecture;
Publication: Publishing
a bi-monthly newsletter and quarterly HKIA
Journal to keep members informed of the latest
news and developments in the field; and
Reciprocity: Liaising
with institutions worldwide for recognition
of members' qualification.
