Dear fellow surveyors.

Being professional surveyors, I am sure you always endeavour to deliver quality service to your clients or your employers, to continuously develop your skill and knowledge and to keep abreast with the surveying technology, standard and practices, local and worldwide. At the same time, I am sure also that you are fully aware of the importance of upholding professional ethics in the course of your work.

Indeed, we are entrusted by our clients or employers; we have access to restricted information, and we have to make subjective judgment. Therefore we have to demonstrate strict compliance with the professional ethics, sense of avoidance of unethical practices and even courage to disclose and report any malpractice and corruption incident.

The legal requirements, the community expectation and the professional standard and practices do change from time to time, therefore, we have always to be kept informed of and well versed to the latest requirements. Otherwise, we may inadvertently breach any rule or law and have to pay for it dearly.

I am very pleased that the Independent Commission Against Corruption has undertaken to work together with our Institute to come up with this E-learning package for our members. This package is particularly designed around our working environment. It spells out in clear and concise terms the various issues regarding professional ethics; it tells how to increase alertness to corruption and where to get help; hypothetical case studies are used for illustration, and a quiz game is provided to deepen the understanding of this most important subject.

I hope you will find the package informative and helpful to your work. The fact that our members are fully conversant with the professional ethics and the prevention of corruption will boost the confidence of the general public in us.

With regards,

Hak Chan
