Scene #1
Time: Night
Location: Restaurant
Character(s): Keung (Food supplier), Wah (Head chef)
(Keung and Wah just finished playing Mahjong)
Wah: (Giving 500 dollars to Keung) Here’s $500. I still owe you 5. Plus the $3000, pay you next week?
Keung: Don’t worry about it man! Take your time.
Wah: When will you deliver our goods? Especially the lobsters and geoducks. It’s Friday now, if we don’t get that delivery, we’ll lose a lot of business.
Keung: You’ll get it all tomorrow! Sorry man.
Wah: I don’t mean to nag you about it. I could ignore it if it happened once in a while but recently it’s been like this every week.
Keung: (Sigh) It’s the flights. They’re late here late there. I’ll check it, okay?
Scene #2
Time: Night
Location: Outside the restaurant
Character(s): Keung (Food supplier), Ho (Assistant chef)
Keung: How come your supervisor is complaining so much?
(Keung gives Ho some cash)
Ho: (Checked with the cash) Hey we agreed that it was 5%!
Keung: All my costs have gone up recently!
Ho: Then just inflate the prices on the invoice! Take some lobsters for yourself. Wah lets me receive and check the invoices. Do whatever, but don’t cut my share.
Scene #3
Time: Day
Location: Kitchen
Character(s): Wah (Head chef), Ho (Assistant chef), worker
Ho: (mumbles to himself) Losbters, scallops, geoducks…
(Wah comes into the kitchen)
Ho: Hey! Wah! All good.
Worker: Here.
(Wah signs the receipts without checking and leaves the kitchen with Ho)
Scene #4
Time: Day
Location: Backstreet
Character(s): Wah (Head chef), Ho (Assistant chef)
(Wah stands and speaks without a word)
Ho: Wah, don’t be upset by what I’m saying. But Keung’s supplies aren’t worth this much! I know this best, I inspect it all. But you say ok so that’s it? I get it. We’ve worked with Keung for many years, we know each other so well and that’s really good. But Keung is getting even more greedy!
Wah: (Looks up) What’s your idea?
Ho: We could set up our own business.
Wah: And the network?
Ho: My elder brother’s got it. He’s a seafood wholesaler. His stuff is better than Keung’s in both quality and price!
(Ho comes across to Wah)
Ho: So Wah. Are you interested in joining us? Then we could supply the seafood to the restaurant. Guarantee the food quality! Look I’m just a junior. How about this? You talk to my brother? It’s best to be your own boss – you do what you want. You can earn a lot more money. You have more money to give your daughter right?
(Wah without a word…)
